Living in the hills of Virginia, I am surrounded by history, changing landscapes, wildlife, gardens and the beautiful imperfections of an old world. Those things continually find their way into my work - but rarely in the way I expect.
I’m a contemporary artist drawn to expressive color, movement, texture, and the tension between something carefully rendered and beautifully undone. My paintings move between florals, landscapes, wildlife, the human figure and abstraction, but they are connected by the same curiosity. How can I push a painting while still holding onto the thing that made me want to paint it in the first place?
My process is layered and slightly intuitive. I work primarily in oils and acrylics, often combining them with charcoal drawing, oil sticks, cold wax, collage, metallic leaf and other mixed media techniques. I love contrasts - loose marks against refined passages, muted color interrupted by something electric, and recognizable subjects emerging from abstraction.
For me, painting is ultimately about noticing. There is beauty, humor, vulnerability, strength, and wonder in ordinary things if we pay enough attention to see it. Finding wonder everywhere has become the thread running through my work and the reason I continue to create.
